Werner Bosmans

Werner Bosmans, a Belgian national, first graduated as a Bio-engineer at the University of Ghent, Belgium, and then did a Ph.D. in international economics in Montpellier, France. After undertaken research at the University of Ghent and at the Belgium Ministry of Agriculture, he was given further responsibilities at the Ministry, being involved in the "dioxin crisis". He became assistant to the Secretary-General of the Belgian and then Flemish Ministry of Agriculture. During that time he did a degree in Public Management and became part-time professor at the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles).

 

In 2005, he joined the Directorate-General Environment of the European Commission in Brussels. He is responsible for Natural Resource policies, promoting life-cycle thinking to reduce environmental impacts. He is one of the authors of the Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe. He now leads a team that is coordinating its implementation and the European Resource Efficiency Platform (EREP).

Christian Hermans

Christian Hermans is a Research Associate from F.R.S.-FNRS, Belgium. His primary research interest is on the mechanisms that define the bases for plant Nutrient Use Efficiency, using a model-to-crop framework. His focuses are on magnesium and nitrogen because those elements raise human health and ecological issues. He brought some comprehension into the physiological and molecular targets of magnesium deficiency in plants. He is also interested to identify potentially adaptive differences in root architecture in response to nitrogen.

 

He graduated at the Université Libre de Bruxelles as an agronom engineer.

He did his PhD on the joint supervision of the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Université de Genève fellowed by FNRS.

 

 

Frederik Fierens

Frederik Fierens graduated in Applied Biological Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit van Brussel.  After a PhD in Pharmacology, he worked as a post doctoral researcher at Janssen-Cilag (now part of Johnson&Johnson).

 

He joined GSK Biologicals in 2005 as a consultant to swiftly enter the medical affairs division. With over ten years’ experience in Pharmaceutical Industry of which seven years within scientific communication and marketing strategies for vaccines, Frederik has worked on numerous projects for the firm.

Frederik  is currently Sr Manager of Global Medical Affairs in GSK Biologicals, in charge for the early stage development of the next generation pneumococcal vaccines.

His daily missions include finding solutions for the highly challenging regulatory and clinical development approaches; providing support to markets and brand team; life cycle management within strategic task forces and regulatory affairs labelling review team in order to seek further label improvements.
